On August 18th, the New Turing Institute (NTI) Rethink Healthcare Foundation (RHF), in collaboration with the National Innovation Center (NIC) and Fullbright University, organized the 2024 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Generation Conference with the theme “New Horizons”.
According to a recent study by Google, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, stated that by 2030, the annual impact of digital technology in Vietnam could reach 1.7 trillion VND (equivalent to 74 billion USD).
According to Ms. Ngoc, AI has created many breakthroughs in improving production capacity, enhancing competitiveness among nations, and promoting sustainable socio-economic development. Currently, AI is being successfully deployed in many fields such as education and agriculture.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, delivered a speech at the program.
Recognizing this potential, the Government has recently issued numerous legal documents aimed at creating a favorable environment for research, development, and application of AI in Vietnam.
“"The Ministry of Planning and Investment is submitting a proposal to the Government to develop 5,000 engineers specializing in AI, in collaboration with domestic and international experts to build a training center for AI applications and incubate AI-based startups," Ms. Ngoc said.
Dr. Jeff Dean, Google's Chief Scientific Officer, stated that breakthroughs in AI are evident in Google's latest Gemini models. Specifically, Gemini 1.5 Pro easily handles large datasets, including text, audio, images, and video.
In addition to developing models, Google also pays attention to ethical issues when developing AI in order to provide users with the best experience and ensure security.
“"AI can summarize a lot of information, such as who the characters are and what the main content is, from a video up to 44 minutes long in just a few minutes.".
"To date, AI is proving to play a crucial role in fields such as healthcare, improving diagnostic capabilities, and environmental monitoring," shared Google's chief scientific officer.
Mr. Vu Duy Thuc, co-founder of NTI, said that AI has helped fields such as healthcare, education, law, and economics achieve 5-10 times higher quality compared to traditional methods.
However, in Vietnam, AI has not yet fully realized its potential because businesses and users are still more driven by trends than by clear objectives.
According to Mr. Thuc, it's necessary to directly address the issue of AI applications in specific jobs so that businesses can provide appropriate AI training. In addition, it's crucial to gather accurate real-world data and establish a legal framework to protect user information.
